Celebrate the Wild West without the hay…..
I was just looking at venues for a client who wants to bring a very country and western themed Stampede Event Design, that we have been successfully producing here, out east. During a meeting with the folks at the proposed venue, I explained the vision of the event and the country and western theme and my contact from the venue immediately stopped me. She vehemently informed me that she was not interested in having me bring in hay bails to the beautiful ballroom.
Ironically, it hadn’t even occurred to me that this is how most people would interpret this type of event. As it turns out, she learned the hard way. She had encountered an event planner who thought it would be a great idea to bring in hay bails as an interpretation of a western themed event. Like many others she discovered how hard it is to remove hay from carpet.
So after having worked with some very talented designers in Calgary, I’m pleased to share some creative ideas as to how you can bring some western flare to your next event- without the hay!
Stampede Event Design Materials
Consider materials like:
- Any Gingham Pattern
These are all great table coverings, draping, curtains or anything else your imagination can create for your Stampede Event Design!
Consider placing simple and pretty wild flowers or daisies in:
- Mason jars
- Beer bottles
- Old fashioned glass milk bottles
- Metal pails
- Vintage watering cans
Western-themed lighting is also easily achieved by adding tea lights or battery operated candles to lanterns and jars. The more the better!
Instead of hay bales consider vintage furniture, repurposed wood and anything a little weathered to add to your theme.
Pinterest is an endless source of inspiration. Just remember hay is for horses… not required when creating a chic country western event!
